Plan Benefits

The Domestic Plan provides cover for Australians travelling domestically. Note that this is not a medical plan, it covers you largely for your luggage and the risk of cancellation or disruption of travel. Cover applies from when you leave your home to go directly to the place you depart from your travels, and ends when you return to your home.

Note: The Cancellation Fees & Lost Deposits benefit is a benefit that covers you from the moment you buy your policy.

This is a summary of benefits. Please read the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) carefully for the complete details of “What we will pay” and “What we will not pay”. Importantly, please note that exclusions do apply as well as limits to the cover and these are set out in the PDS.

Terms, conditions, limits and exclusions apply as set out in the PDS. All costs and expenses claimed must be reasonable. We will only pay for treatment received and/or hospital accommodation during the 12 month period after the sickness first showed itself or the injury happened. # Please note that where one adult is shown as covered on the Certificate of Insurance, the benefit limit which will apply for this section will be the benefit limit for single cover for the Plan selected.

This additional option does not provide cover for claims under section 1.4 Permanent Disability or section 6.1 Personal Liability that arise from you participating in snow sport activities.An excess of $500 in addition to any standard excess, applies for all claims under the Overseas Emergency Medical and Hospital Expenses section and the Cancellation section if you purchase the Snow Pack option and your claim arises directly or indirectly from your participation in snow sport activities. You cannot pay to remove this excess.

1.3 Accidental Death*

This benefit is payable if you die because of, and within 12 months of, an accidental bodily injury sustained during your journey.

2.1 Cancellation Fees and Lost Deposits*

This benefit provides cover for the non-refundable portion of prepaid travel and accommodation arrangements scheduled to be used during your journey, if your journey is cancelled, rescheduled or shortened due to circumstances neither expected nor intended by you or which are outside of your control, such as:

  • Sickness
  • Accidents
  • Strikes
  • Redundancy
  • Natural Disasters

3.1 Additional Expenses*

This benefit provides cover for the reimbursement of:

  • The cost of reasonable additional accommodation and travel expenses incurred due to you or your travelling companion being certified unfit to travel resulting from sickness or injury
  • Your travelling companion's or relative's reasonable accommodation and travel expenses to travel to, stay near or escort you following your hospitalisation due to serious injury or sickness
  • The reasonable cost of returning to Australia due to the sickness or injury of you or your travelling companion or due to the death or hospitalisation of a relative

3.2 Travel Delay Expenses*

This benefit provides cover for reasonable additional meals and accommodation expenses (after an initial six-hour delay) if your journey is delayed due to circumstances beyond your control.

4.1 Luggage and Personal Effects (Additional Cover Options Available)*

This benefit covers the lesser of the depreciated value, repair or replacement cost (up to the original purchase price) of luggage and personal effects which are stolen, lost or accidentally damaged, including:

  • Personal Effects
  • Personal Computers
  • Cameras

4.2 Luggage and Personal Effects Delay Expenses – Nil Excess*

This benefit provides reimbursement for the reasonable costs you incur purchasing essential items of clothing and other personal items if your luggage and personal effects are delayed, misdirected or misplaced by your carrier for more than 12 hours.

4.4 Theft Of Cash - Nil Excess

This benefit provides cover for the following items stolen from your person:

  • Bank Notes
  • Cash
  • Currency Notes
  • Postal Orders
  • Money Orders

You must report the loss to the appropriate authority, as set out in the Product Disclosure Statement, within 24 hours.

5.1 Rental Vehicle Excess*

This benefit provides cover for:

  • The excess, deductible or liability fee specified in your rental agreement, or the cost of property damage for which you are liable, whichever is the lesser, resulting from your rental vehicle being stolen, crashed or damaged.
  • The cost of returning your rental vehicle due to you being medically certified unfit to do so.

6.1 Personal Liability

This benefit provides cover for your legal liability to pay compensation, and your reasonable legal expenses, resulting from death or bodily injury to someone else, or physical loss of or damage to the property of other persons.

7.2 Own Snow Sport Equipment

This benefit provides cover for the lesser of the value, repair or replacement cost (up to the original purchase price) of snow sport equipment owned by you which is stolen, lost or accidentally damaged during your journey. You must report the loss to the appropriate authority, as set out in the PDS, within 24 hours.

7.3 Snow Sport Equipment Hire

This benefit provides cover for the costs of hiring alternative snow sport equipment following the accidental loss or theft of, or damage to, snow sport equipment owned by you:

  • for which a claim has been accepted by us under the section headed ‘Own Snow Sport Equipment’; or
  • because of the misdirection or delay (for a period of more than 24 hours) of snow sport equipment owned by you.

7.4 Snow Sport Pack

This benefit provides cover for the irrecoverable cost of the unused portion of pre-booked and pre-paid ski passes, ski hire, tuition fees or lift passes that you are unable to use because of injury or sickness occurring during your journey.

7.5 Piste Closure

If all lift systems in your pre-booked resort are closed for more than 24 hours due to insufficient snow, bad weather or power failure, this benefit will provide cover toward the cost of transport to the nearest operating resort or the cost of additional ski passes.

7.6 Bad Weather & Avalanche Closure

This benefit provides cover for reasonable extra travel and accommodation expenses that you need to pay if your pre-booked outward or return journey is delayed for more than 12 hours (from your scheduled departure time) because of an avalanche or bad weather.

7.7 Medical cover while Cruising

This benefit covers medical treatment onboard a cruise vessel if you are injured or become sick while cruising. It includes:

  • Medical
  • Hospital
  • Surgical
  • Nursing
  • Dental - where resulting from an injury overseas

7.8 Evacuation Cover - Ship to Shore

This benefit provides for the arrangement of emergency assistance if you injure yourself, become sick or die while cruising. It includes:

  • 24-hour emergency medical assistance
  • Medical transfer or evacuation
  • Provision of written guarantees for payment of reasonable expenses for emergency hospitalisation while on a cruise vessel
  • Messages to family
  • The return to Australia of your dependants if they are left without supervision following your hospitalisation or evacuation

7.9 Cabin Confinement

This benefit pays an allowance for each period of 24 hours (for each day after the first 48 hours) if, as a result of injury or sickness during your journey, you are confined to your cabin or the cruise vessel’s hospital for a continuous period of more than 48 hours.

7.10 Pre-paid Shore Excursion Cancellation

This benefit provides cover for your cancellation fees and lost deposits if you cannot participate in your pre-paid shore excursion(s) due to your confinement in your cabin or hospital bed in the cruise vessel's hospital.

7.11 Formal Cruise Attire Lost or Damaged

This benefit provides cover for the lesser of the repair cost or replacement cost of your formal wear which, during the journey, is stolen, accidentally damaged or permanently lost. The maximum benefit payable is either the original purchase price or the limit shown in the Table of Benefits, whichever is the lesser. You must report the loss to the appropriate authority, as set out in the PDS, within 24 hours.

7.12 Formal Cruise Attire Delayed

This benefit provides cover for the reimbursement of your reasonable expenses if your formal wear is delayed, misdirected or misplaced for over 12 hours from the time you boarded the cruise vessel, and it is necessary to purchase or hire replacement formal wear.

7.13 Marine Rescue Diversion

This benefit pays an allowance for each day (up to a maximum of five days) that your cruise vessel diverts from its scheduled course in order to affect a marine rescue in accordance with obligations under international conventions governing the Law of the Sea, and Search and Rescue.
